Nik Aziz : rubbishes unity government proposal ~ malaysia insider

SHAH ALAM, June 7 — PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Abdul Aziz last night reiterated his disapproval of the unity government proposal, isolating the man behind the idea, party president Datuk Seri Hadi Abdul Awang, and his pro-unity talk supporters.

Speaking at a ceramah held in conjunction with the party’s 55th muktamar (general assembly), Nik Aziz said those who speak of co-operation with Umno are apparently oblivious to the rivalry between these two arch-rivals throughout their existence.

“There is no need to talk to Umno about all this unity government nonsense, it is rubbish,” he told the 5,000 strong attendees who cheered upon hearing the statement.

“Those who speak of co-operation with Umno are definitely oblivious to its cruelty and we in Kelantan know this,” he said further.

Nik Aziz’s rejection is an open attack against Hadi who has not denied the possibility of further talks, supposedly on behalf of Pakatan Rakyat, with Umno to propose a unity government which Hadi claims to be the best way forward for Malaysia.

Leaders from other Pakatan parties, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and PKR’s deputy president Syed Husin Ali however said both their parties have never endorsed such an idea.

This can also be seen as a big slap to Hadi’s protege, Nasharuddin Mat Isa who managed to retain his post as the party’s deputy president after the party held its elections yesterday.

He beat Pakatan-favoured leader Datuk Husam Musa and Mohamad Sabu, both of whom are very popular among non-Muslim opposition supporters and both have blasted any form of co-operation with Umno.

“Umno is evil. The Umno-led federal government talks of 1 Malaysia but they instructed their officers not to co-operate with those who work with the PAS Kelantan government. This is Umno.

“We must obliterate them once and for all. Rid this earth of their kind,” Nik Aziz said.
